Design of this home oriented the house to have living space on the south side with most of the windows capturing heat and light. The living area of the main floor is an open floorplan and features the cooktop area of the kitchen, the eating bar, and a woodstove.
Exterior view from the southwest corner. Upstairs balcony is accessed from playroom. Note that all south facing windows have a 2' overhang provide summer shading.
Another Custom Home
This home was designed to use insulated concrete forms (ICF) to create the exterior walls. Because the exterior walls are 12" thick the design must allow for the thicker walls. Using plans for 6" stud walls and substituting the thicker block walls could make bathrooms too small to fit the tub unless the sizes are adjusted.
Using ICF blocks results in a thermally energy efficient home.
